Day 5 of the "Compartir Europa" Training Course: Exploring Citizen Participation and Diversity

Introduction: Day 5 of the "Compartir Europa" training course was centered around the themes of citizen participation and diversity. This day aimed to highlight the importance of active citizenship and the rich tapestry of cultural diversity, and how these elements can be effectively captured through photography.


Morning Session: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Logistics and Planning The day started with a logistics briefing and planning session. Participants were introduced to the concepts of citizen participation and diversity, and how to visualize these themes through their photography.


Key Highlights:


  • Logistics Overview: Detailed discussion on the locations to be visited and the key aspects of citizen participation and diversity to focus on.

  • Equipment Preparation: Ensuring all teams were equipped with the necessary tools to capture relevant content effectively.


10:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Practical Photography Session Participants visited various locations to observe and capture instances of active citizenship and cultural diversity. This hands-on experience was designed to enhance their understanding and ability to visually represent these important societal themes.


Sites Visited:


Plaza de la Reina (Queen's Square): These sites are central to public life in Valencia, offering rich opportunities to capture the interplay between history, culture, and active citizenship.


La Marina de Valencia (Valencia Marina): This modern area reflects the city's diverse social activities and community engagement, perfect for capturing vibrant, dynamic scenes of citizen participation.


Mercado Central de Valencia (Central Market of Valencia): The market is a melting pot of cultures, showcasing the diverse food traditions and community interactions that define Valencia.


Key Activities:


  • Capturing Citizen Participation: Focusing on public spaces and events that highlight community involvement and engagement.

  • Showcasing Cultural Diversity: Using photography to depict the rich cultural fabric of Valencia, from traditional foods to architectural heritage.


Afternoon Session: 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM: Reflection and Feedback After the practical session, participants gathered back at the host organization's venue to reflect on their experiences and share feedback. This session was crucial for discussing the day's successes and challenges.
